Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat minor aches and pains associated with the common cold, headache, muscle aches, backache, and arthritis. It may also be used to reduce fever. This medicine works by blocking the enzyme in your body that makes prostaglandins, which helps to reduce pain, swelling, and fever. No prescription is required for this product in Canada!
CAUTION
Ibuprofen may cause stomach bleeding.
Ibuprofen can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. Do not use this medicine just before or after heart bypass surgery
You should not use ibuprofen if you are allergic to it, or if you have ever had an asthma attack or severe allergic reaction after taking aspirin or an NSAID.
Do not use ibuprofen if you have the following conditions:
smoking
heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes,
a history of heart attack, stroke, or blood clot;
a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding;
asthma;
liver or kidney disease;
fluid retention; or
Marfan syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, or lupus.
Do not use this medicine without a doctor's advice if you are pregnant. Do not use this medicine without a doctor's advice if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Do not give ibuprofen to a child younger than 2 years old without the advice of a doctor.
DOSAGE
Do not take more than your recommended dose. The maximum amount of ibuprofen for adults is 800 milligrams per dose or 3200 mg per day. Take ibuprofen with food or milk to reduce stomach upset.
